About the Pollock Clan Tartan
Clan Pollock is a Lowland Scottish clan of Renfrewshire, today an armigerous clan without a chief. The clan tartan was adopted and registered in 1980 by Clan Pollock International, giving those of the name a sett of their own to wear.
The name comes from the ancient lands of Pollok on the south bank of the Clyde, and is reckoned among the very oldest recorded surnames in Scotland. The clan badge shows a boar pierced by an arrow, and the motto is Audacter et Strenue, "boldly and strongly" — making Pollock tartan especially meaningful for family pride and Scottish ancestry gifts.

Pollock Heritage
The family springs from Fulbert, a knight who came north with Walter fitz Alan, first High Steward of Scotland, in the 12th century; his sons were granted lands on the southern bank of the Clyde, confirmed by charter under Malcolm IV in 1157. His eldest son Petrus took the name of the lands, and in 1163 gave the church of Pollok to the monks of Paisley. The name survives in Pollok, Pollokshields and Pollokshaws, between Glasgow and Paisley.
John de Polloc appears on the Ragman Roll of 1296, and the family held Upper Pollok and Pollok Castle for some eight centuries. Sir Robert Pollock of that Ilk was made a Baronet of Nova Scotia in 1703, the patent reciting the antiquity of a family already six hundred years old. The chiefship has been dormant since the 19th century, but the name endures worldwide, above all in America, where the shortened forms Polk and Pogue took root.
