About the County Waterford Tartan
The Waterford tartan is one of the thirty-two Irish county setts designed by Polly Wittering for the House of Edgar in the 1990s. It is a district tartan — it belongs to the county rather than to any family, and anyone with a Waterford connection may wear it.

The sett draws on deep blues and greens with darker lines — the water of the Suir and the harbour, the green of the Comeragh slopes and the coastal farmland, and the clear brightness of cut glass in the finer threads.
County Waterford Heritage
Waterford is the oldest city in Ireland, founded by Norse settlers in the year 914, and its Viking triangle still holds Reginald's Tower, standing at the quay since the Middle Ages. From this port the city traded with Bristol, Bordeaux and the Hanseatic towns, and from 1783 its glassworks made Waterford Crystal known across the world.
The county is the country of the Déise, an old people whose name is still used for it today. The Comeragh Mountains rise behind the coast with their high corrie lakes; the Copper Coast runs east from Dungarvan in cliffs and coves; and at An Rinn, the Ring peninsula, there is a Gaeltacht where Irish is still the daily language of the parish.
