In the 20th century the clan was led by Sir Iain Moncreiffe of that Ilk, the celebrated herald and genealogist, one of the great authorities on Scotland's clans and families. The chiefly line is Moncreiffe of Moncreiffe, and the clan's plant badge is the oak; the motto is Sur Esperance.
