About the MacPhee Clan Tartan
The Scottish Register of Tartans records MacPhee — also MacFie and MacDuffie — as a Clan/Family tartan. The MacPhee sett is a handsome green and blue Highland design lifted by fine lines, worn in both ancient and modern shades, fitting for one of the old clans of the Hebrides.
Clan MacPhee, from the Gaelic Mac Dhuibhshith, was long seated on the isles of Colonsay and Oronsay, and is reckoned one of the seven clans of Siol Alpin, of royal descent. Their chiefs lie buried at Oronsay Priory, where a carved tombstone marks a MacDuffie of Colonsay beneath a galley and a claymore.
In 1623 the last chief, Malcolm MacPhee, was killed on Colonsay, and the clan, dispossessed, became a broken clan; a branch found refuge with the Camerons of Lochaber, and MacPhees fought at Culloden in 1746. The clan was revived in modern times and is registered with the Court of the Lord Lyon. An armigerous clan today, its motto is Pro Rege, its crest a lion rampant. The name is also spelled MacFie, MacPhie and MacDuffie.
