Their ancestor Shaw Mòr is said to have led the Clan Chattan side at the famous combat on the North Inch of Perth in 1396, fought before King Robert III to settle a long feud.
The Shaws of Rothiemurchus held their lands into the sixteenth century, when the estate passed to the Grants, and the chiefship of the name came to the Shaws of Tordarroch, who signed the Clan Chattan bands as chieftains of their branch. In modern times the chiefship was formally recognised again, and Shaw of Tordarroch sits with the other chiefs of Clan Chattan.
