About the Robertson Clan Tartan

Clan Robertson, in Gaelic Clann Dhonnchaidh — the Children of Duncan — is a Highland clan of Atholl in Perthshire, whose chief bears the ancient territorial style Struan Robertson. The plant badge is bracken, the war cry Garg 'n Uair Dhuisgear, "fierce when roused," and the motto Virtutis Gloria Merces.

Robertson Heritage
The clan takes its Gaelic name from Donnchadh Reamhar, Duncan the Stout, who led his people for Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn, and its English name from Robert Riabhach, Robert the Grizzled. In 1437 Robert Riabhach hunted down and captured the murderers of King James I, and for this service his lands were erected into the free barony of Struan by charter in 1451 — and the clan arms were augmented with a hand holding an imperial crown and, beneath the shield, a man in chains.
The clan's treasure is the Clach na Brataich, the Stone of the Standard, a crystal charm carried before the clan in battle for centuries and now kept at the Clan Donnachaidh Museum at Bruar. The Robertsons followed Montrose at Inverlochy and came out in all three Jacobite risings; Alexander Robertson of Struan, the Poet Chief, fought in 1689, 1715 and 1745, and when he died in 1749 two thousand clansmen walked behind his coffin to Struan.
