Meldrum Heritage

The Meldrums take their name from the lands of Meldrum, near Oldmeldrum in the Garioch of Aberdeenshire, held by the family from early medieval times as the Meldrums of that Ilk. Through marriage the family also came to hold the barony and castle of Fyvie, one of the finest castles of the north-east, which they held through the 14th and 15th centuries.

Sir William de Meldrum and his descendants were figures of note in the affairs of Aberdeenshire and the wider realm. In time the lands of Fyvie passed to other families, but the Meldrum name endured in the north-east and, with the emigrations, spread across Scotland and the wider world, keeping its old link to the Aberdeenshire country.
