About the McClure Family Tartan
The McClure name — also MacClure and MacLure — comes from the Gaelic Mac Gille Uidhir, "son of the sallow or pale lad." In the Scottish clan system the McClures are reckoned a sept of Clan MacLeod, and family tradition tells of a MacLeod sept that left Skye for Ulster, where the name softened to MacLure, before many settled in Galloway. Those of the name are most fittingly matched with the MacLeod tartan.
