Later expelled from Loch Tay, they were granted Knapdale by the Lord of the Isles, their title said to have been carved on a boulder at the Point of Knap.
In Knapdale the MacMillans held Castle Sween, whose great tower is still called MacMillan's Tower, and raised the beautiful MacMillan's Cross at Kilmory. Branches spread to Lochaber, where they followed Cameron of Lochiel, and to Galloway, where they were leaders among the Covenanters. Today the chief, MacMillan of MacMillan and Knap, has his seat at Finlaystone. The crest is two hands holding a sword aloft, the motto Miseris Succurrere Disco.
