The MacCullochs held Myreton Castle in Wigtownshire and the fine tower of Cardoness by the Water of Fleet, whose grey walls still stand above the Solway shore, as well as Barholm and other lands. In the turbulent centuries of Galloway's history they held their ground among the Kennedys, Gordons and MacDowalls of the region. The last chief died in 1851, and Clan MacCulloch is today an armigerous clan; the motto is Vi et Animo.
