About the MacCracken Family Tartan

The MacCracken name — also McCracken and MacCrackan — is reckoned a form of the Gaelic Mac Neachdainn, the same name that gives MacNaughton, softened in the speech of Ulster and the Scottish south-west. Those of the name are most fittingly matched with the MacNaughton tartan.

The name is found in Galloway and Ayrshire in Scotland and, above all, in County Antrim in Ulster, where the MacNaughton kindred long held land. This collection brings the MacNaughton tartan into wearable apparel, everyday accessories, home decor and meaningful heritage gifts.

MacCracken Tartan Pattern and Colours

Worn with the MacNaughton tartan, this collection draws on a bold ground of red crossed with green, blue and black — the warm, striking colours of Clan MacNaughton of Loch Fyne, fitting for a name of that kindred.

MacCracken Heritage

Clan MacNaughton, from Mac Neachdainn, "son of Nechtan," is an ancient clan of Argyll, of Pictish descent, long seated between Loch Awe and Loch Fyne. As the Gaelic name passed into Scots and English it took many forms, MacCracken among them, especially in the south-west of Scotland and in Ulster.

A branch of the MacNaughtons settled in the glens of Antrim, and it was from that Irish branch that the chiefship of the clan was restored in 1818. From Ulster the MacCracken name went on to America, where it became well established. Wherever they settled, those of the name kept a link to the old kindred of Loch Fyne.
